The Right To Climb

Mental disability is still largely misunderstood and those different yet talented people are constantly being disregarded and denied simple human rights. The two main problems are - a lack of funding for organizations committed to working in this field, and equally important, a much needed awareness and education about the cause and the role that these talented individuals can play in society.

In September of 2010, a team of committed climbers will help do their part in changing this misperception by raising much needed awareness and funds for the cause of special needs by means of climbing to the top of the highest mountain in Africa.

Leading the expedition will be Omar Samra, the first Egyptian, youngest Arab to climb Mount Everest as well as 3 time Kilimanjaro summiteer. Omar’s two elder sisters are intellectually challenged so he is a great believer in the cause.

The proceeds will go to the Right To Live Association (RTLA) where the money will be used in directly improving the lives of people with mental disability in Egypt. The PR and media exposure generated by this unique and record-breaking feat will raise great awareness to the challenges faced by the intellectually disabled, today.
