Azalea Restaurant

Azalea Bar and Restaurant, located near Yaya Center was established in May 2005 by Mr Paul Keir who has a long history in the hospitality industry both in UK and Kenya. At first the restaurant started out by providing International Cuisine with a wide and varied menu of continental dishes. World renowned stage and interior designer, Vittoria Sogno was contracted to do Azalea’s interior design producing one of the most relaxed high quality restaurants in Nairobi.

Azalea gradually started to increase its business through the offerings of its small, cozy and friendly bar. The original menu was still being offered but this time with a wide range of cocktails and shooters and a slightly livelier atmosphere with popular music playing until late at night.

As time moved on it was decided that the menu and the whole set up needed a facelift to further the enjoyment of what was Azalea’s core clientele. Due to the proprietors’ other business commitments, the food was contracted out to Tony Chaudry who is one of the top Indian chefs in the country. Tony’s classic dishes from all over the Indian continent  have already proved a huge hit with long standing clients and as word gets around more and more new people come to see what Azalea is all about.

In 2008 in further response to customer requirements, Paul and his business partner Peter Coventry decided that more changes were needed. On the entertainment front, the popularity of playing live music on a Friday Night with Allan & Elvis playing all the oldies led to the introduction of Jazz nights. An immediate hit.

More changes included; the menu and the bringing on board of Cocktail specialist Henry. A well stocked bar that boasts one of the best single Malt collections in Nairobi. And the making of its open air Verandah more relaxed and informal. With nice sofa sets arranged to give that Home from Home feeling.

Azalea has a wide range of clients but it would be fair to say it is for the more mature, discerning client. People who are looking for quality, seldom found in Nairobi, people that want somewhere out of the mainstream that they can keep as a cherished location. Ladies love Azalea’s wide range of cocktails and for the men there is always the whisky.

Increasingly being used for private and corporate functions, Azalea has the experience to make any party a really special occasion. Coupled with a friendly staff Azalea is definitely the place to be.
