Scaling up biogas production in North America
Biogas has the potential to play a key role in future energy supply, contributing to the sustainable development of economies, agriculture and rural communities, whilst helping reduce greenhouse gas emissions and energy imports.
According to AgSTAR, at the end of 2008, there were 121 biogas systems operating in the US, generating 256,000 megawatt hours of power. The new economic stimulus bill and the Biogas Production Incentive Act of 2009 are designed to increase the number of biogas plants across the country and stimulate market growth.
Green Power’s 6th Biogas conference will bring together the key players from the biogas sector to discuss strategies to increase production of on-farm, landfill, waste and wastewater biogas for heating, cogen and transportation.
