The melting of the Arctic Ocean ice-habitiat has prompted the United States Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) to reclassify polar bears as a threatened species. The melting is directly attributed to climate change brought about by human activity.
The current Polar Bear population is 25,000, but American scientists predict that this will decrease by two thirds by 2050.
Being recognised as endangered and being placed on the list might seem like good news to Polar Bears, but the USA have stressed that their new unenviable status would not lead to new measures by America to prevent climate change.
