Did you switch off on holiday?

Over a quarter of staff who failed to turn off their computer and other electrical equipment whilst on holiday this summer, squandered £5m worth of electricity.

The findings by energy company E.ON showed some interesting attitudes to who is responsible for turning off electrical equipment, with half of the 1,216 works taking part in the survey saying that it was the responsibly of the employer and not the staff.

Switching off lights and computers are a great way for organisation to reduce energy cost and lower their carbon emissions - a PC monitor left switched on overnight wastes enough energy to laser print 800 A4 copies.

The survey puts a strong case for Staff Engagement Workshops and Green Teams with the work place to ensure that simple steps like turning off monitors and printers are carried out.  It also opens up option of seeing if technology can be the answer, as there are many products on the market that ensures that all electrical equipment is automatically switched off at the end of the day.  For further advice and information Energy Saving Assessments, please contact co2balance.
