Throwaway life is no picnic in France

France is introducing a new tax on importers and distributors of non-recyclable disposable plates and cutlery in a move to encourage consumers to buy more environmental friendly products.
It is believed that the tax could be the beginning of a wider scheme, incorporating a range of other goods.
The tax would be set at $1.26 and would include non-recyclable cardboard, and new tax breaks would be introduced for environmental friendly products, making the scheme cost neutral.
The move follows a similar scheme on cars, with an extra tax imposed on the most heavily polluting vehicles, with tax breaks for greenest.
